Practice, Reflection, Iteration
My recent ceramic works are inspired by Filipino anitu sculpture, Cycladic art, and female archetypes. The sculptures are hand formed and I’ve been experimenting with creating my own glazes that are made by layering volcanic glazes with different colors or metallic bronze. Below are bisque fired works in progress. Recent renditions have the forms sitting on its own clay plinth.
This spring, I am returning to the ceramics studio, to continue my practice in clay. Ceramics is a new medium for me, and just as essential to my practice as drawing and painting. For me, a ceramics practice is simultaneously intuitive and analytical. Each day at the studio is practice, reflection, and iteration. The sculptures I hand form are reflections on my own identity in relation to this ancient and earthly material.
