These images were first shown in the gallery of Centre Intermondes, La Rochelle, France during my art residency in the summer of 2019. Each piece is a unique etching on arches paper, from a personal photograph during my travels along the coast of France. My initial aim was to explore, through research and photography, the 17th century French military fortifications of Vauban, an architectural site that not only represents an extreme compression of time and detail, but also a seemingly concrete symbol of empowered remembrance.  From this starting point, I developed a travelogue around my research, to explore how the modifications and changes to things over time are manifested and how it has functioned as an aid to collective memory.
